This report answers one question per procedure: after you pay for the materials, the lab, and the practitioner, what is left? It lists every procedure sold in a period with its revenue, its costs, and its contribution margin, so you can see which work carries the clinic and which only looks busy.
What you can do here
- Pick a period with the From and To dates, and narrow to one branch or leave it on all of them.
- Read the totals — total revenue and total contribution margin for the period.
- Read the per-procedure table: volume sold, revenue, materials, lab, practitioner commission, contribution margin, margin as a percentage, and margin per hour of chair time. It is sorted with the best contributors first.
Where the numbers come from
Only paid invoices count. A procedure line appears here once the invoice carrying it has been paid in full, and the period filters on the invoice’s issue date, not the date it was paid or the date the treatment was done. Revenue is the line’s price times quantity, less any discount on that line.
The costs are estimates, not receipts. Materials, lab, chair duration, and the practitioner’s compensation rule all come from the procedure’s entry in the catalogue, multiplied by the volume sold. Nobody records what this particular crown’s alloy actually cost, so the report is only as honest as the catalogue behind it — if the estimates are stale, so is the margin.
Contribution margin is revenue minus materials, lab, and commission. Margin per hour divides that by the catalogue’s chair duration times the volume, so it stays blank when that duration is zero. Margin % is blank when revenue is zero.
Reading it carefully
The branch on a row is the branch that owns the procedure in the catalogue, while the revenue on that row is summed across every branch you can see that billed it. The report is built only from branches your access covers, so two colleagues can read different totals from the same dates.
The commission column is not the same calculation as the one on the staff commission page, and the two are not meant to reconcile. This page asks what a procedure costs the clinic; that one asks what a person earned.
